The 54th Deadline: Old to New

————————————————————————————————————–
The 54th Deadline: Life is a series of chances to achieve something by a given point. You might very well miss out on opportunities if you are not careful. However, I firmly believe that God gives us plenty of means to find our way, even if we mess up here and there. After all, life demands deadlines. Try and try again until your goals and dreams are realized. Strive to finish on a successful note with whatever you set out to do. Always.
————————————————————————————————————–
Ever since I was little, I had always been good at keeping things for a long time when I really wanted to “treasure” something.

Toys. Blankets. Video games. You name it. When I grew attached to something, I just kept it around with me.

You could partially say it was because my family grew up on the poor end, and thus the luxury of replacing anything wasn’t that easy for us. Every penny counted when I was younger, so perhaps you could say it was me learning at a young age to appreciate what I had?

Regardless, this habit of mine still lingers to this day. I have plenty of things to my name that are quite old in their own right. Some of which I probably should replace, and yet they still stick around in some shape or form. For instance, let’s take a look at this old headset I finally got replaced.

003

Literally, I have had this headset since my freshman year of college at Washington State University (Go Cougs!). I bought this headset for like $20 at RadioShack in Pullman, Wash., and I stuck by these headsets for years and years.

They have been tossed around due to fits of gaming rage, stepped on and through a lot worse during transportation. But I still stuck with them. I still clung to them like my life depended on keeping them serviceable.

And sure, the headset has seen better days. It looks like rats came and gnawed at the wires at parts. The top of the headset itself has cracked from hitting hard surfaces over and over, which has exposed the copper wires. Technically speaking, I should have had these replaced after a few years, but I still kept using them.

Only when the microphone wire got snipped beyond repair was when I buckled down and mentally accepted the thought of getting a new headset. And now, I got an awesome gaming headset for Christmas that I use.

Overall, I think this is an inherent flaw with me as a whole. I get too caught up over random things.

Another case in point is this mouse pad (which of course sports a beloved cat icon that is dear to my heart.)

004

It’s an old mouse pad. The color has worn out over time. But it still works. I just use this mouse pad for all of my computer needs. Again, it should probably be replaced, but I don’t feel compelled to do so.

I can easily afford a replacement mouse pad, so it’s not a matter of money. So what it is exactly?

And thus, I wonder if I just get too focused on keeping things the way they are? Change for me is hard.

Anything that disrupts my personal flow forces me to adjust …

However, I do believe adjustments are necessary.

Hence, the things in the box below are going to prove real significant.

005

Very significant, in fact.

From old to new. It’s about darn time.
